London Civic and ReForest London Plant Trees at Local Schools
London Civic and Reforest London are working together to help us all breathe a little easier. London Civic is working in partnership with Reforest London to sponsor the planting of trees and shrubs at several London schools. At London Civic, we believe this is an excellent opportunity for the credit union to reinvest in our own community.
On Earth Day, students and teachers from Sir George Ross Secondary School planted 36 trees on their schoolyard. This ReForest London project, will bring shade to the schoolyard and athletic field, improve aesthetics, and provide privacy for the school and nearby residents.
The project was designed by students involved in the Landscaping Horticultural Program, a program led by teacher Mike Wareing. Senior horticultural students helped to supervise the plantings, in which students from several classes participated throughout Earth day.
Sir George Ross students planted a mix of native Red Maple, Downey Serviceberry, Pin Oak, Tulip Tree, and Flowering Dogwood which were supplied at reduced cost by Springbank Garden Centre.
Ashley Oaks Public School planting took place on May 14th with the help of students and their teacher Denise Walsh, and the Ealing Public School on June 4th with the Kindergarten class, Principal Dom Larusso and Mrs. Harkins. These three projects are part of a new ReForest London program called “Greening our Schoolyards,” which plants trees in schools yards located throughout London. In addition to the trees planted at the school, London Civic also presented seedling trees to the teachers and administrators at all three schools as a gesture of good will, and the new growth we’re experiencing into the Thames Valley District School Board.
London Civic’s partnership with ReForest London provides an excellent opportunity for the credit union to support our members from the Thames Valley District School Board, to support our community and too help us all breathe a little easier.
